In September/October last year, Chemmat Senior Lecturer, Dr Filicia Wicaksana hosted Prof William Krantz (Emeritus Professor & President’s Teaching Scholar) from the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado. During his visit, Prof Krantz delivered a Public Lecture on “Fresh Water – Challenges and Opportunities” where he gave some facts and figures on the quantity and distribution of the fresh water resources worldwide. He also gave an overview of the current and emerging water-stressed regions that led to discussing how technology can address the fresh water challenge and the high cost of increasing our fresh water resources.

Prof Krantz also delivered a series of workshops on oral communication skills for Chemmat PhD students plus two internal seminars titled “Reflecting on 50+ Years in Chemical Engineering” and “Recent Advances in Membrane Fabrication, Characterization, and Process Technology at the Singapore Membrane Technology Center”.

The visit was funded by The Ralph and Eve Seelye Charitable Trust.
