On Wednesday, at the new BECA building near the Wynyard Quarter, Adjunct Professor Robert Kirkpatrick of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering was invited by the New Zealand chapter of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) to present this year’s Kennedy-Wunsch flagship lecture. The annual lecture series recognises the role that Miles Kennedy and Donald Sandys Wunsch have played in chemical engineering in New Zealand.
The invitation to be a Kennedy-Wunsch lecturer by the New Zealand Board of IChemE is based on the recognition of a respected individual who has either made a significant contribution to the development of chemical engineering, particularly in New Zealand, or practiced in an engineer’s role in enhancing the standing of the profession. Rob has done both having had an illustrious career in industry as well as having made an impact in chemical engineering education at the University of Auckland.
The lecture was highly informative and engaging, with Rob presenting the challenges that face society and how chemical engineers need to be part of the solution.
Big congrats to Rob on receiving this recognition by his peers.
