Outstanding performance by our final year students on their research projects were celebrated, online, with an awards ‘ceremony.’

There were a range of prizes awarding research excellence and the following table provides details.

A L Titchener Prize

The Prize was established in 1986 to mark the retirement of Professor A L Titchener, the first Professor of Chemical and Materials Engineering. The fund supporting the Prize was raised by contributions from New Zealand industries and the Engineering Profession.

Prize for the most distinguished academic performance in the final year BE(Hons) Chemical and Materials Engineering Research Project.

Crystallin Protein Scaffolds for Cultured Meat Production

Phillip Graham Crabbe Memorial Prize

The Prize was established in 1983 by the wife and parents of Phillip Graham Crabbe together with contributions from family, friends and colleagues. Dr Crabbe, a lecturer in and outstanding former student of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, was killed in a car accident in 1982 at the age of 29. This Prize commemorates his pursuit of excellence in the field of Chemical Engineering.

The department awards has its own panel. We categorise all projects to fall in either ‘Process’ or ‘Materials’ Engineering categories.

The department committee then carries out an evaluation of the top contenders and considers how best we can award those top performing students that did not win a SMNZI, IChemE or university awards.
