The Annual PG symposium has become a regular event in the C&M Calendar, and this year it ran for the 4^th time at the City campus on Monday, 9 September. The event is designed for PhD students to showcase their research to the wider community through different media.  All PhD students in the department are invited to attend with early stage PhD students having the opportunity to engage and gain exposure to the nature of the research being carried out in the department.  Year 2 PhD students present their work through posters and Year 3 and above students disseminate their research through oral presentations. This year we had 17 oral presentations and 16 posters. The showcase once again demonstrated the breadth of research being carried out within the department, and the quality of our Postgraduate cohort.

 

In addition, the new Engineering Building project manager was invited to give an exciting update on the move to the new building commencing end-2019

 

Besides presenting and listening to the latest research in the department, the symposium was also an opportunity to interact with colleagues and get to know each other given the many research groups that exist in the department.

The winner of the Best Presentation was awarded to Isabela Monteiro (left). The best presentation and presenter to be forwarded as our department entry for the IChemE PG competition was Sinemobong Essien (right).

 

The best poster awards were: Matthew Ting (1^st), Subhasree Bhaskar (2^nd) and Teck Nam Ang (3^rd )

 

Thanks to the engagement of students and staff, this event was again a huge success.
